Koraput,Sept 3 [UDN}: Zilla Parishad Chairperson Sasmita Mellaka visited several flood-affected areas of Kotpad block to take stock of the prevailing situation and assess the difficulties being faced by residents following the recent heavy rainfall and flooding.
During her visit, Mellaka interacted with people in the affected areas and enquired about their immediate needs, including food, drinking water, healthcare, sanitation and other essential relief materials. She also took information from local residents regarding the damage caused by floodwater and the problems they were facing in accessing basic services.
The Zilla Parishad Chairperson reviewed the ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures and stressed the need for timely assistance to families affected by the flood. She urged the concerned officials and local administration to ensure that essential commodities and relief materials reach vulnerable and affected households without delay.
She also assessed the condition of roads, communication links and other local infrastructure affected by the flooding. Particular attention was given to the safety of people living in low-lying and vulnerable areas, with emphasis on prompt response in case of any further rise in water levels.
Mellaka called for close coordination among the district administration, block authorities, elected representatives and field-level officials to effectively manage the situation. She emphasized that the priority should remain the safety and well-being of the affected population and ensuring that no deserving family is deprived of necessary assistance.
The visit provided an opportunity to directly understand the ground realities in the flood-hit areas and identify the immediate requirements of the affected communities. Local residents also apprised her of various problems arising from the flooding and sought necessary support for relief and restoration.
The Zilla Parishad Chairperson assured the people that their concerns would be brought to the attention of the concerned authorities and that efforts would be made to facilitate necessary assistance and speedy restoration of essential services in the affected areas.
