Bhubaneswar, Sept 3 [UDN}:Heavy rainfall has created havoc across Odisha during the past 24 hours, with several parts of the state witnessing intense and continuous downpours. Bangiriposi in Mayurbhanj district recorded the highest rainfall in the state, receiving a massive 309 millimetres of rain. The exceptionally heavy rainfall has led to a sharp increase in water levels in rivers and other water bodies, raising concerns about waterlogging, flooding, disruption of normal life, and possible damage to infrastructure in several affected areas.
According to the rainfall situation across the state, Odisha has received approximately 74% more rainfall than normal, indicating a significant excess in precipitation during the period. The widespread and intense rain has affected many regions, with authorities closely monitoring the situation, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas.
The heavy downpour in Mayurbhanj and other parts of Odisha has once again highlighted the impact of extreme weather conditions, as continuous rainfall over a short period can cause overflowing rivers, waterlogging in urban areas, damage to roads, and difficulties for residents in flood-prone regions. With Bangiriposi recording an extraordinary 309 mm of rainfall within 24 hours, the situation has drawn serious attention from the administration and disaster management authorities.
As the state continues to experience rainfall far above the normal level, people living in vulnerable and low-lying areas are being urged to remain alert and follow advisories issued by the authorities.
