Bhubaneswar, June 23 {UDN}: The southwest monsoon is set to become active once again. Weather conditions are expected to become favorable for its further advancement by June 23 across parts of Odisha, Maharashtra, Telangana, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Bihar.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, the monsoon trough extending from Punjab to Bihar through Haryana and Uttar Pradesh at sea level remains active. This system is expected to influence weather conditions across several regions.
During the next 24 hours, one or two places in Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds with speeds ranging from 50 to 60 kmph. Coastal and northern Odisha districts are also likely to witness thunderstorms with wind speeds of 40 to 50 kmph.
However, coastal districts may continue to experience hot and humid weather conditions. Meteorologists have predicted that there will be no significant change in the maximum temperature across Odisha over the next six to seven days.
In the past 24 hours, most places in the districts of South Coastal Odisha received light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall was reported at a few places in South Interior Odisha and at isolated locations in North Odisha.
Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature in the state today at 40 degrees Celsius.
The renewed activity of the southwest monsoon is expected to bring increased rainfall to several parts of Odisha, offering relief to farmers and helping improve water availability. Residents have been advised to remain alert during thunderstorms and strong wind conditions and follow weather advisories issued by the authorities.
